THE CAPITAL WASTELAND UPDATE | FEBRUARY 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the February 2022 update for Fallout 4: The Capital Wasteland.

A lot has happened since our last official update and we can't wait to share what we have been working on these past 3 years. We won't go into stuff already covered on our Discord server, so feel free to join there to get teasers and chat with the team! Anyway we have a lot to cover so without further adieu let’s get into it.

SCRIPTING AND GAMEPLAY

HcGxGrill has been busy working on our new backend gameplay systems, scripting and menus, here are some of the brand new features!

Weapons now have proper degradation, and will break if not maintained. This feature is now fully implemented into CW just like it was in FO3, if weapons are not maintained they will not do as much damage and will be more likely to jam.

But with all these weapons breaking you're gonna need some way to fix them, well Grill has you covered there since the repair menu is now fully implemented into the game. You can either repair a weapon with a similar weapon in your Pip-Boy or if you have the caps take them to a vendor.

Level Up Menu

Next up we have a brand new Level Up menu, also created by HcGxGrill. These are an exact recreation of the classic Fallout 3 menus!

We now also have a proper Pip-Boy menu for keeping track of your good or bad deeds in the form of the Karma Tab.

Another cool smaller feature we have added back in is essential NPC ragdoll knockdown. Huge thanks to Seb263 the creator of Knockout Framework for helping us out with this!

And last but not least HcGxGrill and TheFriedturkey have recreated the old gene projector. Which will be used during the intro, when getting a haircut and even by a certain someone who offers facial reconstruction.

EXTERIOR LEVEL DESIGN AND ENVIRONMENT ART

One of the most important aspects of this mod is the world itself, over the past 3 years we have made leaps and strides in terms of quality and accuracy in our worldspace, it is far from done but the pretty much all of the map has the majority of its landscaping first passed and a lot of locations to go along with it.

TheFriedturkey has been working on making the artwork and art direction for the wasteland more accurate to Fallout 3 while still taking advantage of the new engine. In order to do this we had to ditch a lot of the Fallout 4 assets like rocks, trees, terrain paint, weathers, and grasses and replace them with brand new ones. This came with its fair share of challenges but we think the end results speak for themselves in making the Capital Wasteland more distinct and beautiful. We feel now we have nailed down a tone, colour palette and general art direction for CW.

All of our level designers have been hard at work making various locations around the wasteland and we feel some of these screenshots really speak for themselves.

Here are some screenshots from our lead interior level designer C411um13 showing some of the downtown DC world spaces he and Project Founder NafNaf_95 have been working on!

INTERIOR LEVEL DESIGN

Interior level design has been making huge progress recreating loads of iconic interior locations to flesh out the world, with carefully crafted lighting and new interior kit pieces, the team has worked to ensure each cell has the correct feeling and atmosphere for maximum immersion.

Here are some interior shots from our interior level design lead C411um13, showcasing interiors from Megaton to Rivet City and the metros in between.

Luke Benjamin Carlson has done some amazing work recreating the Ranger’s Compound with some really impressive lighting and cluttering to really give it that Fallout 3 vibe.

Hollow has also been making some fantastic interiors, like the Flooded Sewer, Germantown Police HQ, Jury Street Metro Station and Hazmat Disposal Site L5

Our newest level designer HTX has been working on Eulogy’s Pad as a part of our rework of Paradise Falls with our new assets.

ASSETS
Our asset team has been hard at working making new weapons, set dressing, creatures, kits, foliage etc, there is just way too many assets to show here but here. Roughly we have around 2500+ new assets in CW and still many more to go.

Saros has been hard at work making a load of set dressing pieces from consoles to rubble to machinery, here are some of the things he has been working on!

Zanthir has been having a blast remaking some of the grenades and mines found throughout the wasteland.

Our asset lead TheFriedturkey has also been busy on various creatures, weapons, set dressing and outfits. Most of which are already released for you to download and more will be in future.

That just about wraps up this update, we hope you enjoyed this look into what we have been working on, this is only a handful of examples and there is much more to come in future. Don't forget to join our Discord server and follow us on Twitter, we post more regular teasers and updates here and there plus there are some more images in the #gallery section on our Discord server to go along with this update. We would all like to thank you all for your continued love and support for this project!
